1st Harvest of '09!

I know, I know, not a lot of pre-harvest stuff? I decided to forgo that this time and just show the yields, I will say there was a scare in the beginning for the peppers. The weather was exactly NOT the right forecast for them, but I'll let pictures tell the story. Everything went in the ground on 5/16/09 and 1st harvest was on 8/4:

First Harvest!

Crop: Roma & Cherry tomatoes , Green & Yellow Bell peppers, and Rosemary:

Green Peppers not looking good due to weather. (i.e. to hot and to wet) Yellow looks good:

Tomatoes didn't seem to mind, time to cage the fury!:

Weather change and the peppers rebounded nicely!:

Everybody nice and healthy now, time to swing for the fences!:

Early Risers LOL

It's Starting!!!!! I love this part when you know it's going to work.

Yellow peppers apparently grow taller than their cousins:

, lot of flowers but no peppers yet

Time for a harvest!

  1. Tuck, Glad to see that your tomato plants are doing well despite the damp summer. About 10 years back, we had a very damp start to the summer and my tomato plants developed a fungus. The fungus killed all 4 of my plants and wiped out my crop for the year. How often do you water? Do you spray the plants or do you let the hose run on the ground around the base of the plants?

  2. Thanks Farmer, I usually spray the base until I see a puddle, then stop. If really dry I do this twice. If I happen to water near dusk, I also spray the leaves, but never I never spray the leaves in the sun. I do this on average of every 3 days. I also use Miracle Grow during this process. Good Luck with yours!

  3. This year has been fairly wet, which I bet has made the rewards of your labor less than optimal. Have you battled any other natural obstacles during your gardening career; I.E birds, bugs, or disease?

  6. Not this time........Yet! (knock wood) The tomato bugs always find me sooner or later but not yet. I have battled them and leaf mold, AND WON! Using Safer brand spray. (http://www.saferbrand.com/store/garden-care/5452)
